So I survived the surgery. I have yet to see the new girls, another 24 hours and I can take a shower Yaa. My doctor didnt do nipps, so 2 more months and then an office nipple procedure, and 2 months after that I get tattoos. Maybe I'll get 4 leaf clovers instead. Okay back to my vicodin coma. Cheers!

Back to the boobs

Ok for those of you new to the joys of mastectomy and breast reconstruction, it is a multi-step process to create a new set of knockers. The first step is mastectomy, I assume no explanation is necessary...at the time of mastectomy they insert tissue expanders which are basically deflated implants. Slowly over the next few months they fill the expanders until you feel like you are going to bust open, somewhat like the movie Alien.They resemble coconut shells at the end, hard and round, very unattractive(well honestly there is nothing attractive about this at all) Ok so you are fully expanded finally and then you wait 2 months for everything to settle down. The sencond surgery entails being opened up again revision of the scar around the implant , put a new implant in, in my case silicone, and revision of the outside scar. Now usually the nipple is created in another surgery 2 months later and 2 months after that they tatoo an areolla. phew! Now my plastic surgeon has decided to do nipps at the same time of my exchange surgery, which is pretty unheard of because the implants shifts etc for the next 3 months. But honestly if I can get this whole thing finished 2 months sooner than anticipated yipee. So next monday the 22nd I will have surgery #2. Fingers crossed that I will be happy about the result, The only good thing I can say about medical insurance at this point is there is a law in this country that insurance has to pay for breast reconstruction and until I have a satisfactory result it has to be covered. So here's to silicone and nipps praise be!

Shanked With A Knitting Needle

So my dogs are naughty..alway naughty. Ariella and Binky always seem to find trouble when I'm in the toilet. So a few weeks ago I'm in the loo peering at my puffy eyes, trying to wake up when the sound of 8 legs pounding down the hallway and a baby puppy cry immediatly gets my attention. I see Ariella sitting awfully pretty but her front paw is up in a shake position. I bend down to look at her paw and see one of my metal knitting needles sticking out of her chest. Good Lord! Crap! My poor little pitbull shanked by the evil Binky, prison yard stabbing. So rush to the emergency vet, many x-rays later, lots of money changing hands, and Ariella is fine. The "accident" hasnt soured her love for my knitted doggy blankets. What a story she can tell her friends at doggy daycare, but I think Binky still brags about the time he attempted to kill his sister.

Ok lets see we have my favorite felted hot pads, that I'm soo in love with. I swear I could pick up molten lava with these things. Family members will probably end up getting some of these for holidays sorry...The photo on the right is my first attempt of a quasi-lace scarf. It actually turned out really nice, of course its black so it doesnt show up so well and I havent blocked it yet. Now I'm working on a lace shawl and another doggy blanket.

FOOBS= Faux Boobs, this is what I see when I try to look down at my cute sandals... Yes better then nothing but REALLY. I have to live with these things for a couple of months and then I will get my permanent implants which should be slightly more natural looking. Ok you can stop laughing now, I had a mastectomy dammit! Feel bad for me! No laugh away I sure do.

I'm finally back to work full-time thanks be to Allah! I missed working -crazy!!I go see my fab plastic surgeon once a week to see how things are healing and see if I can get a little boost in the boobage area. So far I've only had one small fill, this week I should get another small one. I do have a lovely cleavage but thats about it. Poor little pancakes...Soon my lovelies!!Bwah Haa Haa (thats my evil laugh)

Okay-so I survived the surgery woop-woop but man am I a mess. Not so sexy...Tubes are going into my sides where they drain out the fluid, really its not such a great look. I AM CARING AROUND BAGS OF MY OWN FLUID!! All right besides that whole mess I am great- I havent had the meltdown that everyone was ready for.. I saw myself said okay I can live with that now give me more vicodin ; ) They started my reconstruction during the mastectomy so I am not concave, I certaintly have no boobage at this point but I do have cleavage which is pretty odd. All in all things are good, major bruising I might have some healing issues do to the bruising( the skin at my insision site might die, hopefully not, fingers crossed) but besides that I am well. I am on the other side now, no I dont mean dead stupid! I mean the worst is over... thanks for everyone's support and well wishes. Now I can go back to being the cranky bitch I always was- yipee!!!!

My mastectomy is coming and I am calm. Am I mentally prepared or just tired of preparing? I am not panicked, I sleep well, and I have not bitten my fingernails. I look at pictures of reconstruction and I am hopeful for great results. Why am I not freaking out? Weird.

So instead of being a knitting blog I have a feeling that this will turn into a diary of my bilateral mastectomy. Happy Reading!! I'll try not to be too descriptive. I go see the plastic surgeon today so lets see how great he will make my boobies. Its still probably at least a month away so I have lots of time to mentally prepare. I dont think thats really possible, but I'll do my best.

Well after taking Excel Level 1 & 2 classes this week you would think that I would feel a little more confidant in my skills HA! now ask me to make an incredible hulk or an adios mutherf****r (cocktails) and we would be in business. It just takes time right??
Last night I finished my 3rd beanie for Paul. This was my first attempt using circular needles and if I do say so myself I did a fabulous job! Love it!! I wasnt thrilled with the nipple on top but it disappeared when on Paul's big noggin. Its a lovely green tweed that looks especially handsome when combined with green army cargo pants..ok now you can laugh. Next a black beanie with the cashmere mix yarn that I got with Hannah at Purlescence, and I found a really cute pair of felted bunny slippers that I might make for a coworkers 1 yr old daughter.
Ok I meet my oncology surgeon tommorow so think good thoughts!!Lets see how long it takes for him to call me a freak of nature.
